Public Works
The Washington County Public Works Department maintains the counties many miles of roads, both dirt and asphalt, and the county owned bridges. The Public Works Department makes sure the counties dirt roads are maintained by grading them regularly and that the counties highways are repaired and the grass along the shoulders is cut on a regular basis. They also maintain the wooden bridges that cross over the creeks and streams along the dirt roads. The culverts and drainage ditches along the highways and dirt roads are kept free of trash and derbies that could cause the water to stop flowing thru them when it rains.
The department also maintains the road name signs that are placed at the end of each of the county roads for the Emergency 911 System. Please remember these signs are placed to help the Fire, Police, and Ambulance services reach you quickly in an emergency. If you know of anyone who is stealing these signs, please contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 850-638-6111.
If you have questions or would like to place a road maintenance or repair concern, please call the Washington County Public Works Department located in Wausau, FL.
