PARKS & RECREATION

Washington County Parks & Recreation

Here in Washington County we believe in capitalizing on natural resources. Washington County encompasses two-hundred and twenty-one stunning lakes, in addition to hosting two major water ways, both Holmes and Econfina Creek, which flow independently throughout the county.

With such vast waterways, creating unmatched natural beauty, breathtaking crystal clear springs, luxurious foliage, an abundance of diversely populated wildlife, Washington County has meticulously constructing forty-four County Owned and maintained Public Parks. These parks are strategically situated throughout the county emphasizing the Counties natural charm.

Washington County has endeavored to diversify Public Parks and Recreational Facilities, creating facilities that are sure to appeal to both residents and visitors. In addition, Washington County requests the assistance of all Park and Recreational Visitors in helping to maintain the orderly operation of the facilities. While Washington County Sheriff's Office and staff members vigorously patrol and monitor County Parks and Recreational Facilities, they are unable to provide around the clock presence.

To report any information on parks, you may send an email to: wcparks@washingtonfl.com.

Dunford Lake

Washington County has one lake, out of two-hundred and twenty-one, that requires the purchase of an annual permit. Dunsford Lake, being the only permitted lake in Washington County, is situated on 210 acres. It's one of many small sinkhole lakes located among the old sand hills that recharge the Florida aquifer. Dunford Lake is a haven for swimming and fishing. The lake has several submerged sandbars and one large surface sandbar/island. It is known to hold bass, crappie & chain pickerel. As most sinkhole lakes in the region produce absolutely stunning bluegill, one can guess that the same is true of Dunford Lake. In fact, sinkhole lakes hold several state records for large bluegills. The lake is exceedingly clean and clear with little submerged vegetation.
